The curriculum at Lycee Rochambeau is good, and some teachers are excellent. In my experience (and my child went there for 13 years), most teachers are fair to good, and some are not very good, and there isn't much that can be done about it. When my son first started kindergarten, there was open opposition from many parents and even some (although just a few, but nonetheless) teachers to the presense of non-French children in the school. This sentiment continued to be felt throughout the middle and highschool years and was even reflected in the way some teachers graded non-French students. The English program was very problematic in my experience. English simply was not given enough priority. Despite all the problems, the gift of a second language is priceless. It is sad that the students had to acquire it in a less desirable atmosphere.

elementary school.... It provides a balance of academics and enough time for children to socialize during the hour lunch/recess, and AM/PM recesses This is a French public school, with the same French curriculum as in France, with the addition of three periods of English, where American history topics are discussed/ read. Geography and history are each taught once a week-this provides more background information about the world than sporadic projects in social studies in the neighboring public school did. The teachers are allowed to teach more than in the local schools, and rely less on small groups of children doing projects. They also aren't distracted by assessment and testing. The teachers seem to have the freedom to explore what they like to do with the children- one year origami, the next year making use of good weather to cross to the park. The structured classes helped my child orgaize. Mental arithmatic!
