Shayne looks like a great school from the outside, but the principal is a nightmare. The principal has no respect from the teachers or the students. The only hope for this school is the new assistant principal. They can't keep assistant principals or good teachers. Shouldn't someone look into the turnover there. The school condons bullying by pretending it doesn't exist. The kids rarely go outside for recess and the kids are kept apart from any friendships. This could be a great school with the right leadership.

I have had a child at this school for four years. The Principal is clearly a very committed, quality professional. Her door is always open and she clearly has the respect of the teachers. The teachers overall are fair but a high number seem burned out - many before they ever transferred to this new school. We have had a couple really great teachers, but forthe most part the teachers seem just fair. The level at activities at the school is exceptional. The school sponsors family game nights, spaghetti dinner fundraisers and family math nights among other activities.

I have two children at Shayne and I think the school is wonderful. The teachers moved quickly to help my son with his speech problem and I have seen amazing progress. My daughters teachers have gone out of their way to keep her advanced. She helps other children that my need tutoring and is very proud of her accomplishments. All of the teachers that my son and daughter have worked with have been great. Shayne has also introduced the children to spanish, which seems to be essential in this day and age. I am proud to send my children to Shayne Elementary.

I was very disappointed with Shayne while my child attended there. I believe that since the principal came from an inter city school she was not used to having involved parents and did not know how to handle them. It seemed that the only way to keep control was to 'yell' at the students. Everyone barked at the kids. They did not have enough to challenge the kids that were doing well therefore they fell to the wayside. The children are not allowed to talk in the cafeteria above a whisper. The teachers were very capable but stifled. Loved the PE program. It is a shame it is a beautiful school outside but more of an inner city school mentality inside. My child said it best 'Mom, no one there ever smiles.'
