I am very disappointed with the lack of homework my children have. My senior is in for a huge wake up call when she goes to college this fall. I don't feel she is prepared for the amount of work she will be facing. The teachers seem to have a lot of 'sick time' on their plates, and the substitutes teachers that replace them do NOTHING with our kids, one actually has a mental illness that was obvious to the kids in the class. The principal actually came to the class and spoke to the kids about this teacher and the incident that occurred in the class. Extracurricular activites are aplenty.. but academics are lacking in my opinion. In general I am disappointed with the way my child has been prepared by the school for her college days. Should have raised my family in Portsmouth.

The teachers care. The principle cares. There are plenty activities for the students. The guidance department needs an overhaul. That is the glaring weakness.

The emphasis is totally based on standardized test scores rather than teaching the children. The guidance councilors are extremely unhelpful with the college search. The principal is a nice guy although he is a people pleaser. The extra curriculum activities are wonderful. Lots of options for the children to take advantage of. The school system may have great standardized test scores, but a poor faculty. In my opinion look to move to a different town!!

I attended all 4 years at Tiverton High. The school is just split down the middle 50% of the staff cares about the children's education and future. The other 50% don't care what happens just as long as they get paid. Most of the math classes are the teachers reviewing what happend the year before because they don't teach the children the correct information when they should have. The art department is wondreful and all of the teachers are nice and know that art is a wonderful way to expand the mind. The Music department is very into what they do but sometimes put to much pressure on the children.i am not trying to say that Tiverton High school is a horrible school but they do need a little more involved with education and future skills. I hope this is helpfull.
