The high school sports program is very good, lots of kids are involved and there is a lot of school spirit. However, I question whether the academic program receives the same emphasis and respect. Like it or not, academic performance determines a students path after high school. Attitude is the first thing to change.
I attended Cashion from Kindergarten to graduation and loved it. I now have a child in grade school there. Some of the elementary teachers are as bad as the principal-they obviously play favorites. My child has been both favored and disliked. Neither situation has been beneficial for him. The extracurricular activites that Cashion offers are severely limited, and I see my friends' children in other districts that are experiencing a curriculum that is far more advanced for their age than our children out here are. My husband and I are considering a transfer to Piedmont for our children.
I was a 2000 graduate from here. All the teachers that I had did everything that they could to prepare me for the outside world. And I am doing very well. I went to college and graduated, got married and have started a family. I think that the quality of the teachers is outstanding and when my children get old enough to go to school, they will be enrolled at Cashion. I wouldn't want them to go to any other school.
I have two kids who have graduated from Cashion and one who is a sophomore. I am not very happy with their ability to help the kids find their way in the real world after graduation. Almost no life skills. Too much emphasis on sports. Very little preparation for college. A 4.0 may still need remedial help in College. They like to hire new teachers fresh out of school with no on the job experience. Then they leave the next year for higher paying positions. On the upside, nice kids and no gangs or violence. They love the school.
