I am very grateful with teachers and administrators in this school. They are good with children. My daughter learned a lot, she is going to middle school and she is ready for advanced classes.
After moving into Seminole County from Orange County I am VERY happy with Longwood Elementary. My oldest son was classified as a child with ADD while attending school in Orange County and I was told he was only a few weeks behind everyone else. Boy did they drop the ball on my son! Since he and his little brother [K] have started at Longwood, I have seen tremendous growth in my oldest son. This school was our savior and I couldn't be happier. His teacher worked with him day in and day out, and got him all the help he was entitled too. Too say that this is not the school for a child with a 'problem' is a little far fetched. I would never classify my son as a 'problem' child but Longwood has done amazing things for him. =)
My child has attended Longwood Elementary K - 3 and is back to graduate with the fifth grade class. I have seen many changes within this school during the years and only a few have been beneficial to the school as a whole. I have heard Longwood Elementary described as ' the best kept secret' within the community ( tongue in cheek ). I, personally have had negative experiences with teachers and staff who either lack interest in teaching, their personal issues crossing into their jobs, their excessive habit of gossiping about parents of students, etc. The high acheivers recognized are hardly those who earned it through honest effort and a disturbing level of preferential treatment and honor is given to the children of PTA/ SAC board members. I feel it is a very political school and far from an equal opportunity to education.
I think that this school has very poor leader ship. This school is not for children with any kinds of problems. Now the Assistant Principal has wonderful leader ship and I feel if she took over this school would be a much better school for all children and teachers.
