PMS as it's known locally is now 2 years into the more traditional middle school model (away from teams). The transition has been rocky because it's meant more work for the teachers (most middle schools made this transition before now) but the students are starting to reap the benefits - a more flexible array of classes, including 8th grade classes that give high school credit. Science and math teachers in particular are superb - including a Michigan Middle School Science teacher of the year and a math teacher who is nationally certified (there are few of these in Michigan and 2 are in Plainwell). Great school with caring teachers.

The decision to move away from teams for financial reasons has reduced the effectiveness of the middle school. Having known this school for several years due to having four children in the district, I can see the differences. Teachers are working hard to maintain quality education and communication, but without teams there is no infrastructure in place to deal with all the issues that arise on a timely basis. Losing five teachers in this building has hurt this school. The district needs to re-evaluate their financial priorities.

If parents are willing to drive the extra distance, why wouldn't they be allowed to choose? Every school is not a match for every child and parents know their children best ... More »

Definitely! I believe that families should be allowed to attend any school they want, because there are some who went to a good school and parents want what's best for their kids. Even education.
