Chester has a terrific faculty and a top notch principal. The academic programs are good, and are supplemented by volunteers from the community, coordinated by a very active PTA. Music, art, and sports activities are offered. There are also 'Smart' classes held twice a year where students can enhance their education in a variety of subjects for no charge. Parent involvement at this school is remarkable. The PTA is well-funded and very active. It is common to see several parents, both mothers and fathers, within the school on a daily basis doing volunteer work. Family-oriented events occur on a monthly basis. The entire community is supportive of the school, and it is considered a gem.

Teachers truly care about the students. Safe, secure, friendly environment. Staff is pretty strong in academics, especially in reading. Parents are generally very supportive and involved. Could be more extracurricular activities.

I go in every Monday and help with the Kindergarten reading group or play word games. Then I eat lunch with my child. I also attend and bring things to all school parties. Since I volunteer only on Mondays I do not burn out. : )

Our school gives us mandatory hours (15) that we must give to the school in one way or the other. It is very easy if you don't mind stuffing envelopes or being a lunch mom. I think they even give working moms the opportunities to work on paperwork.... More »
