West Allegheny has been my daughter's school since kindergarten. We have had nothing but a positive experience throughout her eleven years in the district. Each elementary school has a swimming pool which allows children to learn to swim when they should and not wait until high school. The middle school program addresses the changes and challenges of the children growing into young adults blended well with academic studies. The high school program offers several college prep classes and numerous extra curricular activities for varied interest. I find the staff and administration knowledgeable and engaged in my daughter's education. The facilities have recently been renovated and upgraded. The only fault I have with the district is they need to contain costs so our property taxes do not continue to increase. submitted by maw

West A allows student to thrive and tends to forget about those who do not. Many teachers are ignorant to the fact that each student learns differently. However, select teachers are outstanding. Over all, the school in general does not have good facilities, i.e., bathrooms with stall doors, poor auditorium seating, unhealthy lunch choices, etc. Prior experiences with this school have me gravely concerned to the point where I am sending my child to study elsewhere. West A does not offer the proper cirriculum for my child, i.e., Art. The Art Program at West A has their two, talented, teachers having to buy certain materials every five years and unforuntately having the students use little to none of the materials. The Academics are a positive when looking at the school. However, the school does not evaluate a child's needs.

My daughter is a senior this year and I feel she has received a great education at WA schools. We did spend one year away from WA district but chose to come back. My daughter is a dedicated student and very focused. The school could use more help in guidance as one senior counselor is not enough for over 200 college bound students. The one we have is fabulous but overworked! I have been very happy with the office administration and overall experience at this school. More parent involvement would be great. There are only a select few of parents that have a significant presence.

16 for double dating, and 18 by themselves. So many kids are put in situations that they do not have the capacity to guage!
