Before selecting Peabody for our son, we evaluated Peabody, St. Anne s, Covenant, Charlottesville Catholic, Charlottesville Day School, and Venable. We had full on-site visits at all of the schools and we respect that each of these schools has its own niche that it is filling and that no school is right for all children. For us, Peabody has been an amazing experience in which we and our child have been exposed to a wonderfully individualized and personal learning environment. In his K year, there were eight reading groups for a class of 13 students. He was exposed not just to academic rigor in terms of subject, but he was treated like a student, not just a young child. He didn t just study birds, he studied ornithology. He didn t learn that they have a skeleton, he learned that birds have a fused clavicle. Peabody goes beyond the basic, and nurtures curiosity.
Why do the best faculty and administrators leave this school each year? Why can't we keep the really good ones?

My daughter has spent two years at Peabody. We had hoped for her to be challenged academically, but have been unimpressed by the slow pace of her classes, and the general lack of interest in providing differentiated learning opportunities for her. Advice in these economic times: save your money, and find enrichment through extracurriculars, or consider some Charlottesville Schools (like Covenant) that offer lower tuition, more financial aid and more individual attention to your child.

We love Peabody and the enthusiasm the staff and administration bring to the school. No concern or idea is too small to be shared and our thoughts are always met with receptive ears. Most of the parent body is highly supportive and caring but there can be some quite demanding and unrealistic parents. We have children in the lower school and the middle school, so we have a pretty good snapshot of the school. We wish Peabody went beyond 8th grade.
