I had the occasion to visit the school during a high school girls soccer game. Even though my wife has allot of family in safford and thatcher area we had never had dealings with the school .Before ,during and after the game I witnessed multiple issues with the derogatory and rude comments from kids and parents alike . The teachers onsite where barely better with how they talked with the visiting parents and kids. The culmination of the night, sadly, was when two 40 something ladies took time to ridicule and embarrass one of the freshman girls making the trip which ,when given the chance to apologize they were rude enough to think they had been insulted by being asked to apologize. Knowing this is a very religious community I was shocked to say the least at the behavior of the kids ,parents, and staff. I can honestly say my daughter will NOT be making the trip to this school ever again and I would quit my job and home school her if my only option was to send her to Safford High .
This is a great environment for a teacher to work. We are held to high expectations and are given help when needed. It would be nicer if there wasn't so much red tape to get classroom matericals, but that seems to be a problem everywhere.
Quality of instruction ranges from fair to very, very strong, depending upon teacher. (of course) The principal is excellent, and extracurriculars, both academic and sports related, are all one could wish. I have had a few negative experiences with teacher non-responsiveness. Heaven knows teachers are outlandishly busy, but parents who care shouldn't be treated as if their expression of concern is inherently negative. Information exchanged is good! I do feel my sons will go to college extremely well prepared from the education they have received at SHS.
