Small classes and a bright, enthusiastic staff make this school a real gem. There is only one class per grade, and the colocated elementary school and high school are the only schools in the district (the elementary principal is also the superintendent). Because of the small size, no student is overlooked and there are many chances for parent involvement . The staff is very approachable and a committed parent can make a positive difference. Potter Valley Elementary is a California Distinguished School.

Very small town/community. Coming from a larger city, this did little to further my childs education. Ukiah 30 miles away.

I go in every Monday and help with the Kindergarten reading group or play word games. Then I eat lunch with my child. I also attend and bring things to all school parties. Since I volunteer only on Mondays I do not burn out. : )

Our school gives us mandatory hours (15) that we must give to the school in one way or the other. It is very easy if you don't mind stuffing envelopes or being a lunch mom. I think they even give working moms the opportunities to work on paperwork.... More »
