I am a parent of 3 boys who attended Quentin, and just moved out of the district. Two of my boys excel easily and are above grade level, but my oldest boy has a harder time. He was blessed with Mr. Parisot as a 4th grade teacher. Surprised by his bad progress report, I met with his teacher & we devised a plan to bring his grades up. He went from a low 70% overall the first quarter, to almost making the honor roll the next! He made it fun for his students to learn, and was always available. His 5th grade teacher Mrs. Petkus worked extremely hard with him as well, and he acheived the honor roll by the end of the year! I think parent involvement helps to determine a childs success not just the teacher!
This school has improved a lot since it first opened. They have a female principal who has been there many years and appears to be dedicated and liked by all her staff. Many teachers now stay more than a year or two so the high turnover has slowed or stopped. The schools upper grades (5th and sixth) have a few male teachers who seem to work well with that age group. This school really has improved so much and has freindly staff who support the diverse needs of the students there.
My two boys are new to Avondale this year and I think this school needs to be better staffed. This school has 1000 students attending. So there needs to be more teachers. I receive lots of communication from staff and teachers. Overall I forsee no big problems in the near future. This school seems to have improved since opening and I think things will continue this way.
