Hamilton (Center) Academy, (Washington, D.C.), is the school of last resort for our city's 85 most learning-challenged students, in grades Three through Eight. The Principal and Assistant Principal are hands-on, implementing a highly positive program of academic, social and behavioral remediation, and infusing the faculty with the knowledge that ALL children can learn. Students benefit from a huge battery of extracurricular services, including a team of full-time Social Workers, a nurse, an Art Therapist, a Speech Therapist, a team of Behavior Technicians, a PE Coach, a Computer Lab Instructor and a Fine Arts Specialist. Every class has one or more dedicated Aides; some students have their own dedicated Aide. The students are also rewarded for coming to school well-groomed and wearing a crisp, clean white and khaki uniform. It's an excellent model for other schools.
