Well, You may think the block schedule is ridiculous but it actually helps students not go to the same class & hr every single week. You can get tired of the same teacher at the same hr every single day. i heard stories too & theirs rare times when theirs fights and their always small ones this school actually helps learning, help manage school work and sports at the same time. The teachers are wonderful and kids actually understand. i think its the kids that choose to do their work or not. & thats why they fail. Pep rallys are great , and having 4 classes a day is better so kids dont have work all cramed up from 8 classes. Im Proud to say my kid is a B & A student . & Currently A Sophmore At PARKER BRONCS, &Plays Soccer as well.
I had a daughter at Parker High School. Unfortunately the administration of the district as well as the school are lacking objective and real leadership. The 'Block' scheduling is ridiculous. It crams a years worth of school into a semester. That may be fine for testing, but it lacks for retention. It also reduces the educational opportunities by about 8 classes over 4 years. It seems to me that there is too much emphasis on doing what the principal wants and not what is in the best interest of the students. If there principal were on campus more, he would know this already. Also if he accepted a little critique of the plan he would understand how much the teachers and students dislike it. Not that they should be the final arbiter, but all input should be considered.
When my daughter started high school at Parker High, I was afraid. I had heard stories of violence and kids bringing guns to school. I considered sending her to a different school or home teaching her. I did some homework and asked many questions and decided to give the school a try. I'm happy to say that I made the right choice. My daughter is a JR. and an honor student. I think if children choose to learn, they will. If children don't, they won't. It's our jobs as parents to make sure they choose wisely. Making a point to know our childrens' teachers and friends is very important. The things, both good and bad, that happen at schools is all relative. One can not blame the school for our childrens ill behavior. Again, it is up to us parents to guide our children in the right direction.
Parker High School is an adaquate school. For the community of its size, the high school fullfils the needs of the community. The school offers band, chorus, and art. The athletic program is often in contention for regional championships. The special ed. department is better than average. Two of the three special ed teachers have been there for over ten years and are very competent and the superindendant is an advocate of special ed needs. As far as parent involvement, as most high schools, it is difficult to get parent involvement; however, I would again classify it as average for the towns social status and size.
