Not sure where the person from 2007 got their information about the programs here, but the curriculum in this school is the best in the entire area. They offer advanced electives where kids can learn about forensic science and how DNA evidence and CSI crime solving techniques relate to science. They also have an expanded art program, studio art, where kids who have an interest can take this as a class and do actual studio projects. There are programs at this school for every kids talent and ability. Most of the other schools in the area offer the kids a choice of band, chorus or art, that's it. Also, this is a closed district and therefore many of the behavior problems that came with School of Choice in other districts aren't here. No kid is perfect, but I never have to worry about my kids' safety at school.

Programs have been dropped to the point that the curriculum allows for no choices to be safely made by students. Students are directed into taking classes that they have no interest in. These are elective classes beyond core classes. The school board and superintendent have created this situation.

If you truly mean a shy kid who wants to be outgoing, then I would help them interact with one child at a time. If you are talking about an introverted child, refer to http://www.carlkingdom.com/10-myths-about-introverts

Find something you are good at or enjoy doing a lot, just one thing. You'll gain confidence and meet other kids that enjoy that activity too. Mine was singing in choir. I wasn't good at anything else but that built my confidence for other things... More »
