My son first day will be January 17th. Seems like a long day for a four year old.I guess I will be more anxious than he will be.

When you walk through the doors of the Haynes EEC you are wowed by the structure itself. It is a beautiful space for young children and their families. There is also this overwhelming sense of community. It is a warm and inviting center that is decorated/designed to engaged young and old. People treat children like they really want them to do well and they do. There is always someone there doing something meaningful who could be a teacher, parent, volunteer, secertary or custodian. Everyone is welcome and those who have something to share are valued. The music of the many languages spoken and the mosic of the cultures shared throughout the day and the school year make you want to come back even if you work there! You may even find returning students and parent coming in to say hello or give a hand. Relationships are clealy a core value. The mission is education and at the Haynes it happens for the whole child. You always hear singing, music, story and drama. Children as young as three years old are given the opportunity to present their work and be critiqued by their peers. Being part of this warm and supportive learning community is very much appreciated by everyone. The Haynes is a good place to grow.

I can say honestly i was quite concerned when we got this placement, becuase of the neighborhood that the school is in. Talk about a 'diamond in the ruff.' My son has has grown tremendously in the last year with his teacher and since they 'loop' he will have her for 2 years which is outstanding! would recommend 100%. Mrs. Gumes the principal adores every student as if they were her own grandchild. How lucky are we to have such a great early learning center so close to home. Note: this school starts at k-0 but is not for the 'faint of heart' my k-0 kid has more homework than my 1st grader and 4th grader! this is not free day care - they are very serious about every child learning and growing academically.

I go in every Monday and help with the Kindergarten reading group or play word games. Then I eat lunch with my child. I also attend and bring things to all school parties. Since I volunteer only on Mondays I do not burn out. : )

Our school gives us mandatory hours (15) that we must give to the school in one way or the other. It is very easy if you don't mind stuffing envelopes or being a lunch mom. I think they even give working moms the opportunities to work on paperwork.... More »
