HES is rather unwelcoming to parents. Opportunities to participate are seldom offered. Communication is rare. The facilities show great wear and lack of pride in their environment. Has the district been exposed to any outside schools to see the progression of the times? Or doesn t the community care? There s no modern (or SAFE) playground equipment. The children lack understanding of library and researching skills, and lack counseling for bully behavior. I d love to see some progress in the above. However, my child seems content with school most days. Her classmates are good kids. Classes are mixed with special needs students, fostering understanding and acceptance. TAKS scores are competitive. My child s teachers have webpages where I can see what they ve been studying. Still, I worry the teaching is too TAKS-based and if the kids will be truly college/world ready due to some of the other district quality issues I mentioned.

Hubbard elem. is a good school. They will do this best to work with you and your child. The Pre-k teacher is the best teacher ever. I hope my child will have more great teachers like her.

They could be doing much more to earn money by collecting more then just BoxTops & Soup Labels. There are Capri Sun Drink Pouches, Used cell phones, laptops, empty ink/toner cartridges. They should look at TerraCycling.com What is PTA REALLY doing?

It is great to teach our kids to give to others-within limits. Support without demanding! I boycott school fundraisers; donate elsewhere to show real value in helping where needed.

From the asking perspective (such as schools asking students to donate to causes) frequent appeals for donations creates real problems for families who cannot afford to donate to every appeal or cause. Stop pressuring kids for money.
