We transferred our children to Carpenter as "school of choice" students from a very academically inadequate charter school in Ann Arbor. Both our kids were a year behind academically and needed a lot of remedial help. They both have wonderful teachers who keep close tabs on their progress and both kids have received excellent help outside the class with reading and math. Carpenter has a great physical ed. and art program and offer lots of extra curricular events. We could not have scripted a better experience. The principal is new and is still developing his communication style with parents, but bottom line - he truly cares about the kids.

I currently have 3 kids attending Carpenter and have had wonderful experiences with the principal, teachers, staff and other parents. I love the environment at Carpenter and love that my children enjoy going to school and participating in various activities in school as well as after school. Their excitement makes me become more and more involved.

Our son has been in Carpenter from Kindergarten until 5th grade and done very well. The teachers have been excellent and Mr Collins is a great principal who is able to keep control of the students while guiding them gently in the right direction. We look forward to our daughter starting kindergarten at Carpenter next fall. The school commmunity is diverse being from parts of Pittsfield Township that range from low income housing to upper middle class. Therefore the students and parent involvement various from none to extreme with less than some Ann Arbor schools that have more higher income families.

Good school, very diverse and my daughter has a very good teacher. There is certainly a sense of community at Carpenter.

If you truly mean a shy kid who wants to be outgoing, then I would help them interact with one child at a time. If you are talking about an introverted child, refer to http://www.carlkingdom.com/10-myths-about-introverts

Find something you are good at or enjoy doing a lot, just one thing. You'll gain confidence and meet other kids that enjoy that activity too. Mine was singing in choir. I wasn't good at anything else but that built my confidence for other things... More »
