I have four children who attenda the school. After many years of trying to find the perfect school, we finally did. Reading the other reviews, there are lots saying there in hours of homework, it makes me wonder if these families actually payed any attention to what was really going on it the classrooms. With four kids at SCPA, we never spend more than 30 minutes a day on homework. They are given lots of time in class to work on homework, and not just sent home with hours of work to do. This school has allowed my kids to progress at their own pace. In some classes they are advanced and in others they are not, but they are not pushed to advance they are challenged to work hard and never give up.

Why don't some people get it? Throwing hours of homework (tedious crossword puzzles, random reading comprehension short stories, and word searches), don't make a program more challenging! All it does is pile on extra hours of mind numbing homework so this school can say it is 'challenging' those top kids. Great building...now I hope you look at some of the 'other stuff' that really matters in education...please!

SCPA is probably everything that you heard it is--tough, lots of homework, an administration that does a poor job at welcoming new families. But I'm giving them some slack--they try hard to do the right thing for the kids, and you'll never say that your child isn't being challenged! While I appreciate the tough acedemics, I think the board needs to step back and place more emphasis on the process of learning. Kids learn when they feel valued and listened to, and only when you have their attention. The school doesn't tolerate bullying or bad behavior, but they need to remember that MOST kids are good, and learning should be fun and adventurous.
We love this school! My son was a struggling reader at another public school and he has made fabulous gains at St. Croix prep. The environment is healthy and supportive. He had two minor discipline issues last year and I was VERY impressed with how the administration handled the incidents... I would recommend the school to anyone... I can't wait for my other three children to begin school at St. Croix Prep.
