Great concept and the core knowledge curriculum is a superb choice. Unfortunately, the execution has eroded successively over the last few years. While some subjects are still taught at above (public school) grade level; others are spotty and inconsistent. Even the Spanish immersion (foundation goal) is not comprehensively attained. Administration is disorganized and communication between staff entities(admin and teaching) is often confused. Parents routinely receive little advance notice (less than 24 hours) of school matters requiring action. There was an inordinate focus /emphasis on fund-raising this year. While some fund-raising is certainly expected; it was objectionable and somewhat offensive to involve the children in the process to such a degree that class-time was used to discuss it. The end of year program was a disappointment to say the least. It was presented as a vehicle for the children to exhibit what they learned and sadly, that was true.
I agree with the posting of April 1, 2009 in so much as it is a fantastic concept and foundation. The CK and Spanish immersion education concept is fabulous and was very good. Unfortunately, the quality of the education has declined. Even the use of Spanish diminished over the past year. The teachers are stressed, disenfranchized and are resigning. Many families are leaving the school. Fund raising is pushed so hard that it's difficult to remember any other activities or interests in the past year. The parents are nickeled and dimed constantly. The financials are not transparent and which only leads to speculation. While we would like to have faith in direction the school is taking, we just don't.
A fantastic concept and foundation. The Core Knowledge base and mult-lingual education my child receives is top notch. I would like to see more experience on the staff and some more clarity with the work, but very good overall! PreK through 3rd and growing every year!
