Lyndon B Johnson High School

I graduated from Johnson City and have no regrets. I got into an Ivy League college outside of Texas. It is sad to see so many of the children nowadays not taking advantage of some of the teachers' knowledge, this is why the good teachers leave and the bad ones stay. If parents took an interest in making their children actually care about school then their children would do better.

From grades K thru 6th I think the teachers do a very good job. They seem sincere in making sure all of the kids learn the curriculum. From grades 7th thru 12th I am worried. These are the critical years in which we prepare a child for the next level. I do not feel that they are being prepared. I believe this all starts at the top (School Board, & Administrative). The potential for this school district is endless, but a leadership change will have to take place in order for changes (progress)to be made.

What a disappointment to see the rankings of our school system. The amount of questions my kids ask about homework leads me to believe that the lessons taught in the classroom don't apply to the homework they are given. Yes we just built a new high school, and yes it is a beautiful building. However, if we don't provide the academics our kids need to suceed in a higher education setting, then we have failed as parents, we have failed as educators, we have failed as administrators, and we have failed as a community. This should be evident given our drop in size from 2A to 1A. We are losing kids. Why?

I have had one High School graduate and still have a 6th grader in this school..We moved here primely because of the school system and for the most part have not been disappointed. I feel the Elementary and Middle School have top notch educators. The high school on some level I feel leaves parents out on the academic portion of education UNLESS the child is struggling. The hardest thing was not to be able to see or talk to the teacher. In their defense though I do feel we could not have had better. Although my daughter has graduated, she has choosen not to go to college. I think if teachers explain things a bit better the average child would go more...I myself is a high school drop out and I really needed for the counselor to really hold my hand in explaining things...but on the other hand I know she was probably trying to make the children do things for themselves. All in all The enviroment of this school K-12 is a loving and the educators want nothing more than to see the children to succeed.
