I'd like to refer to the person who made the comment on the "less whites" from the west side getting passed over. First, if the student is from the west side, they are supposed to go to school on the west side, white or not. The reason they would be attending school on the opposite side is because someone lied about their address to get them here. Obviously, this school is worth the trouble of getting the west side kids in. Second, we do need to keep our focus on testing. We need to prepare our kids for college and a future. Play time is at recess. The problem is when the whole class has to get dummied down for the one child that isn't performing academically with the remainder of the class. Often times, this is because they re not getting the help they need at home. Our schools and teachers shouldn t be expected to lower their standards for the failing students! These teachers have a state mandated curriculum to abide by whether they want to or not. They are doing the best they can with the limited incomes and constant cutbacks they deal with. The teachers at NH are great, staff always helpful. Love the school loop site.
The parents are involved, the teachers are first rate, the Principal is excellent! We love our school!
The technology programs are great and provide a good yardstick for monitoring the kids' progress in math and reading. My own child has excelled at this school over the past 2 years). However, I think the school is getting a little TOO focused on test scores, and losing the personal touch; the teachers could use some continuing education in how to reach ALL the children in their classrooms, not just the neat, tidy, naturally smart, and obedient ones. There are a large number of children at risk of falling through the cracks here because of favoritism and an overemphasis on conformity. I believe the "less white" kids from the west side especially get passed over for awards and don't get the help they may need. I have begun looking for other options, only because I believe my child could reach greater heights (no pun intended) with a more enriching school environment that is less "lock-step" in nature.
We hope to have new beginnings at this school, look to the future with great hope and anticipation. M1
