Fairhaven is proud of the teacher quality and dedication to training and professionalism. The staff has worked diligently to meet the needs of a diverse population of students from various economic backgrounds and English language abilities. Students come dressed to learn and are held to high academic and behavioral standards. We are dedicated to a positive environment, from Awards Assemblies, to Field Trips, all school assemblies and Reading at Home Program. Students have the opportunity to receive an award each month during a school-wide assembly. These include awards for Citizenship, Academics, Doing Good Deeds, Attendance, and Math and Reading achievement. Teachers offer in-class awards daily. We invite our community into any classroom that has been on track and notice the word walls, Graphic Organizers: word webs, sentences to be ordered, time lines, writing samples, writing across the curricular areas including math journals. We are proud of the achievement of our students and only lament that they are not with us for longer periods of time. (We have a 37% mobility rate each year.) Teachers work hard to promote student academic growth and learning. There are programs available during and after school to help students learn English
The teachers are both caring and trying very hard. They are led by an excellent principal and office staff. The school is no different than any typical school with students getting into trouble. The school has an excellent amount of resources with a well stocked library and a brand new computer lab with 32 new mac computers.
