This is an excellent school. I have two children that attend this school, and we have been very pleased with the teachers and administrators. One of my children had a medical condition which other students started making fun of. Both the teachers and administrators did a great job at stopping the negative actions and educating the students about the condition so they could understand it instead of mocking it. I also have a student that needed extra help and the administrators and teachers put together a good plan that has help my child excel.

During the 06-07 and 07-08 school year, I saw a huge transition in this school (especially after the horrible flood event that hit the area recently). There is excellent principal leadership. I suggest enrolling your child here rather than the other public school in the area.

This school is absolutley ridiculious. I do not reccommend this school to any parents considering this school for their child. Ottawa Elementary has been a huge disappointment for my children. The teachers go off task in many of the classrooms (where they should be learning). Teacher morale is low because of really low pay and lack of any positive feedback from the administration. Priorities are not uniform and too much time is spent off task in some classrooms. For the at-risk child that needs nuturing, there are caretakers on this campus but the real need of smaller classrooms is not provided.

I have been very disappointed with this school and I encourage parents to enroll your child elsewhere. The quality of instruction, especially in seventh and eighth grade, are poor. Priorities are not uniform and too much time is spent off task in some classrooms. The needs of the children are not being met because of this. The school has been a huge disappointment for all of my siblings. The school does not provide accelerated learning oppurtunites. I do not recommend this school, not even to the other public school in the area.

They could be doing much more to earn money by collecting more then just BoxTops & Soup Labels. There are Capri Sun Drink Pouches, Used cell phones, laptops, empty ink/toner cartridges. They should look at TerraCycling.com What is PTA REALLY doing?

It is great to teach our kids to give to others-within limits. Support without demanding! I boycott school fundraisers; donate elsewhere to show real value in helping where needed.

From the asking perspective (such as schools asking students to donate to causes) frequent appeals for donations creates real problems for families who cannot afford to donate to every appeal or cause. Stop pressuring kids for money.
