As an 'ex' student at Shawnee High School I feel that it is really missing good high quality teachers; the dicipline is not a stretched issue.

There are almost no extracurricular activities. Discipline is focused on small infractions while major issues are often overlooked.

Though the 2007-2008 school year has yielded a new principal and administration, Shawnee is still lacking in its focus. Money is used almost solely on sports and agriculture, with all other extracurriculars gradually being phased out. Discipline is still not even.

Shawnee High is a small school that is sufficient for a high school education. In some areas it is deficient in providing college preparation; however, it allows for any student to perform to their ability if the student is willing to put forth the effort. I am grateful that was able to attend Shawnee instead of a larger school. The technology is sufficient and improving; albeit slow improvement. But with governmental cutbacks, how would one expect the schools to compensate? I completely disagree with the funding put into the sports programs and feel the money would be better served in other areas of academics such as the hard sciences. Overall, the school is good with needing improvements in certain fields; but what school isn t?

Teachers who are firm, tough, yet fair, are mislabeled as, "bullies." This is such a ridiculous and false accusation. I got a tough job but I love my job and I care about the students. People don't have a clue what I do or the challenges... More »

How I handled it varied depending on the circumstances. Teacher bullying is child abuse-proove it 1st! If teacher/pricipal/staff won't stop-go above their heads-Seek help from PTO's,administration, schoolboard, media, even CPS-Child Protective Services.

No one should put up with this. Take it as high as you need to go and follow up everything in writing. Even so far as going to your local paper. School A tolerates bullying and won't help children being victimized. They will listen after that!
