I have a son that attends LHS and it is a good school, the staff and Principles are great and are on top of everything! But I do think the teachers need to give more homework and try to prepare the students for college more! I like the fact that it is small and everyone knows everyone, the students get more teacher time, than other bigger school.
Lockhart High School is a Texas Education Agency Recognized School, within the TEA Recognized School District, in 2009. The Career and Technology program has blossomed in the past 4 years. The completion rate is at 96%, which is at the top of high schools in the state. Come visit us at www.lockhartisd.org.
LHS has AP programs and regular but no honors classes. The music and track (including cross-countr y) programs are excellent. There is a high involvement of students in extracurricular activities. The small town atmosphere allows for more personal contact Graduates of LHS have attended Brown, Rice, Yale, MIT as well as good public universities and have become professionals. Parent involvement could be much better. There is a big gap between the high achievers and those who are just waiting to drop out of school. The vocational program needs a lot of work. Students are put into some vocational classes because there are not enough electives and they sometimes prevent the vocational teachers from being able to provide valid instruction because of class disruption. There is a move to create more career paths and this area is improving.
