My son has been at Wellwood for three years and he is in the magnet program. this school is not all it's cracked up to be. The only work that he seems to receive is french work. every piece of paper that comes home is in french with no english translation and sometimes he doesn't even know what to do. The teachers when asked how the child is doing they will say very good until the work is sent home and all they are doing great in is French. The best thing that I have found about this school is the warm response you get from the staff, diversity and the Mr. Burke is outstanding. I would not recommend the magnet program to anyone unless they want there children to grow up and move to France.
My son is in 1st grade. He loves going to school, have fun w/kids at school. His teacher Miss Redmond is very good, the principal is super!! I haven't seen a principal that serves the students like Mr. Burke. I also attended their Diversity Day and I loved it!! If you want your child to know and to learn to respect other race and nationality, then this is the place to go.
Dont care much for this school. My son transferred from another county school last year. His teachers are very old fashioned meaning- the students dont enjoy being in class. My son comes home saying that he hates his teacher.

Our son started kindergarten here excited and happy. But a few weeks into the year, he was punched in the face on the bus, a classmate stole his sandwich during lunch and stomped on it, and there were numerous children in his class who had serious behavior problems that constantly demanded the teacher's attention. The classroom was overcrowded with 22 students in a small room. Despite claiming to support healthy eating habits, the school provides pepperoni pizza, hot dogs, popcicles daily at lunch and allows all students to choose their own food. Snacks in kindergarden included oreos, popcicles, chocolate pudding, gummi worms, cookies, cheez-its. Buses are unreliable, picking up children 10-30 minutes late in the AM. Despite its reputation in the past, Wellwood's student body has undergone drastic population change recently, reflected especially in the younger grades, where parent involvement is low and children are not academically oriented or well behaved.
