I am a graduate of White Pine High School. I came to Ely for my last 3 years after attending the largest high school in the state before that. Like all schools, White Pine has its own quirks and areas that could probably be improved upon. This being the case, I feel that I received an excellent education at WPHS. All of the teachers seemed to have the student's best interests at heart. It is a small school that offers small class sizes with ample one-on-one help. It is also big enough to have all of the extra curricular and vocational courses offered by larger schools. Many students participate in Sports, NHS, Band, Choir, Cheerleading, etc... I am currently a VERY dedicated Secondary Education Major at the University of Nevada and would be proud to return to WPHS as a teacher one day.

I was a student at White Pine High School for one year. It was my freshman year. I didn't do good because not only i couldn't do the work, but because when i asked for help from the teachers they wouldn't take time out to explain it. But it wasn't all teachers just some. For the most part i loved the teachers there. Some of them just need to learn how to explain things in different ways to students so they can understand what they are saying. I graduated from Green Valley High in Henderson, Nv and i Loved going to that school. Up here i had a lot more opportunities than i would have in Ely. But every student is different in their needs and wants. Some just have to work with the best.

Our principal won the 'Principal of the Year award in 2006. He runs a very tight ship and is well respected in our district and our community.

On the contrary Ms.Allphin, I believe that this school is actually a very good school in comparison to those who's teachers don't even know the names of any of their students. We have access to one on one focus from teachers to students, and we also have the abilities to do well. Just take a look at the Proficiency Scores for the last two years. We are considered to be in the top schools of Nevada. Just because our school has a 'strict' dress code, doesn't give you any license to complain. It is merely for our benefit, and Just because you feel like coming to school dressed inappropriately doesn't mean that you should be allowed to distract other students with your inappropriate choice of clothing. This school does focus on education, and also on clothing.!

A blog by nature is public territory. If you don't want something to be public knowledge, don't post it on the internet.
