Orville H. Platt High School

The new principal, Mrs. Mik, has re-energized this school with her enthusiasm and positive outlook. This is reflected in the attitude of the student body. The school was featured as a 'cool school' by a local television station during the last school year. This will be our child's senior year and the past few years have included very memorable and positive experiences, especially with regard to the band. Mr. Guilmette is a great teacher and mentor to his students. Several former students are now staff or teachers at the school. We feel that the low test scores are not an accurate reflection of the quality of education at this school. The building does need to be updated, and the City is planning to update both high schools in the future.

i am a former platt student, class of 07 and my personal expericnce wasnt the greatest. Though i have heard that it is better than Maloney. Now, i started my high school years at Wilcox, please do not send you kids there, its even worse. Platt by far is better than the the rest. The faculty is somewhat friendly, yet there are many issues about safety. Alot of harrasing going on, bullying is still an issue, and the language the students are using with the teachers is just no right. The school itself has been falling apart. I was there when the school was closed so they could fix the ceilings since it was leaking. The air quality is not so good, and in the summer is very, very uncomfortable. Academically, the classes are alright, im in college now, but i find myself learning things i didnt learn there.

We think Orville H Platt High School is just Awesome! Since our daughter has entered the school last year as a freshmen she has both grown and prospered! Her grades and attitude both show this as a positive sign of good school moral. She loves the teachers she has had and has now. She also loves Cheerleading and Chorus which she is involved in. We hope the school continues with a positive environment so everyone gets to benefit!-Mr and Mrs Joe Heany
