I have a son who attends HES. He is in his second year now. Compared to the first school my son attended I give HES a 10 hands down. The teacher's have been wonderful thus far and there has always been a good line of communication. The IEP/504 team is pretty good. There have been times when I felt that the meetings are a little one sided, but overall they are willing to listen and try to be accomidating. They are very good about allowing parents to be fully involved with the school, which was something we did not get at the old school.

I have done 5 months of research on different schools before we moved. You see my son has Dyslexia and this school has the best IEP Team I have ever seen. We put him in a private school for 2 years thinking he would benefit from the one on one but that only made things worse. Needless to say, I don't know what we would have done if we didn't have the awesome staff here at Huntingtown Elementary working with him. They even showed me how to work with him at home. Thank you to all of you for making my son's life a lot easier not only with academics but with his self confidence as well. To see how much the staff is involved just shows me how much they really care! Reading is everything, and now my son can read!

I go in every Monday and help with the Kindergarten reading group or play word games. Then I eat lunch with my child. I also attend and bring things to all school parties. Since I volunteer only on Mondays I do not burn out. : )

Our school gives us mandatory hours (15) that we must give to the school in one way or the other. It is very easy if you don't mind stuffing envelopes or being a lunch mom. I think they even give working moms the opportunities to work on paperwork.... More »
