Its a great school. the teachers are awesome, the school itself looks very nice and everything is very under control

I have/had 3 students at FHS. The difficulties for this school's administrators (besides the typical for all large high schools) is the multi-cultural challenges. The school has a large 'english as a second language' group coming from South America and the carib. Helping non english speaking kids integrate and learn is a challenge. The population tends to separate along those lines creating two schools, and I think it's the main reason this school rates poorly on FCAT. Regarding the last posters comment about teachers; I agree. Quality of teachers at the High School level is disappointing. However, I wouldn't single out FHS on that. This is a problem for all public schools everywhere. Union tenure is more important than performance and you typically find older 'worn out' teachers in the High Schools. Administrators have their hands tied.
FHS has been a huge disappointment to us. After spending 2 years at Hunter's Creek Middle school where they have an A rating and MAGNIFICENT teachers; you'd think the local high school would have some of that too. NOT! There are teachers that shouldn't be teaching but when I told the administration there is a problem with the curriculum and that my child was not learning anything, I was told to work it out with the teacher! That's all my child needs. There are too many more issues to mention now. Thankfully my child will have dual enrollment next year and will only have to be at the school for half the day. I'm sure these issues exist at other schools but this school should be far better than it is located where it is.
