My son will be in 8th grade this coming fall. So far I am very happy with the school. They have a strong 'bully free' policy. The assistant principal has been very helpful in dealing with my son getting bullied due to his size. They have a strong sports and extra curricular program. My only concern is regarding some of the teachers allowing a lot of extra credit and to turn in homework late. What happened to the days when you were accountable for your work and had to turn it in on time? If my son fails to turn in his homework, he's not concerned because he can always do extra credit to bring up his grade. This type of policy will not help him later in life. However, his test scores are high, so they must be doing something right!

UMS is moving forward by leaps and bounds. The new principal, Erik Burmeister is proactive, energetic and an expert on quality education practices. The teaching staff is in favor of the rigorous continual training and collaboration now being required, and the students are moving on well prepared for high school in math and science. UMS turns out excellent musicians and athletes as well.

My child has flourished at Union Middle School. Her teachers were nurturing, yet offered plenty of challenge. The drama program (parent run) has been phenomenal! Principal 'Mr. B' is great!
