My daughter was in a class where the teacher was out quite a bit. Mostly for on-site meetings, but a lot where personal. Including taking jury duty that was to keep her from the last weeks of school. I also felt like they where trying to implement new teaching methods using software that was not fully class room ready. I feel that I will need to be more diligent in understanding what my child is doing in her class. I've already asked a lot of questions about the 'GATE' program which nobody seems to have answers. I'm concerned about there downward trend in test scores.

my child attended this school for 3 years. He had some wonderful teachers K-1, they worked well with all the kids. When 2nd grade came around he was put into a combo 2/3 class and I feel that he was ignored. He missed some of the fundamentals that 2nd grade offered and he felt to stressed to understand the 3rd grade work. We left the school and I am very happy with that decision.

My second grade child started attending Mt. Vernon this year. There are a lot of differences from her previous school--some good and some bad. The few things that need help; teachers need to be in class more. My child's teacher has been out a lot; some for personal reasons but most because she is at 'on-site meetings'. There has to be away to keep teachers in the classroom. The other concern I have is the safety. In the mornings they have no kind of patrol to help students cross a busy street to get to school. In the afternoons, they have one adult who helps at a 4-way cross stop, instead of at the crosswalk in front of school where there is traffic coming from 4 different directions.
