I totally agree about the enrichment program. If special education is integrated why isn't there more of it for the upper end? School should challenge all the students to work at the next level. If subject matter has been mastered let the child move on. Alice Schafer Elementary staff is more than willing to meet with parents and discuss ideas. The principal is very supportive and often thinks out of the box when it comes to problem solving individual situations. The frustration comes in working up the ladder to that level as I haven't always known the right questions to ask. The music teachers continue to excel. The PSSAs are the biggest hindrance to individual advancement.

ASE is a great school. Most of the teachers are very caring and give 110% to all of their students. ASE has some parental involvement but could always stand to have more. ASE ability group for math beginning in 3rd grade. This works well for all students. The lower groups can move at a slower pace while the higher group can move quicker and through more intense material. ASE has a wonderful music program with 2 great music teachers. The other specials teachers do special and fun activities with their students as well. ASE has a brand new computer lab with a smart board that will be a wonderful addition to the remodeled school. I feel the enrichment program for the gifted students needs improved. It is one day a week and doesn't have anything to do with the regular education classroom or curriculum. Overall ASE is a wonderful school.

We test kids at the end of the year and beginning. Kids that don't keep up during the summer take a giant step backwards. If our kids do complain about homework, we ask them,"Do you want to work for a company, or own the company?"

No. Let the children have a break. Let their minds focus on being children. They'll have plenty of homework when they go back to school. I would not even consider enforceing summer homework for my children. They need stress free playtime.

Yes. Of course summer is for fun however they can take a brake from homework 2 weeks or so, not the whole summer. If you teach a child the importance of learing they will enjoy the homework even in the summer.
