The orchestra program at MBMS has saved my child from a total experience of misery. The social climate there is difficult. Wealthy students tend to segregate out from the moderate income students. Also, there is a elite academic status system. If your child is in all honors and has no difficulty in school academically and if they live in a wealthy neighborhood your child will enjoy school there. If your child should have difficulty academically, despite any wonderful human characteristics, he/she will be frowned upon by other academically gifted students. As the parent of an internationally adopted child I can say with experience that issues concerning race need to be addressed. The comments, many of them negative by other students are disheartening. The staff is wonderful. I wish the Principal would stop chewing gum in public.

We had a positive experience at Myrtle Beach Middle School. Our older son just finished eighth grade and my younger son starts sixth grade this fall. My sons are in the honors program where the kids are challenged to excell. My husband and I stayed involved at the school and participateed in many oraganizations. I tried to communicate as needed with the teacheres via email. I found the principal to be very caring and effective. He knew most students by name. The teachers were willing to go the extra mile to insure the best from each student. Stay involved and get to know the faculity and staff. They are dedicated to your child. I would recommend this school.
