Gates is a wonderful school for my children! Gates is a very balanced school, combining strong academics with hands on lessons and student activities. My children have had wonderful, dedicated teachers that are truly talented with their own styles that work for the children. The teachers are very creative and caring. The children may run for student council in grades 3-6, which runs the school store and sponsors community service projects throughout the year. The upper grades may switch classes for science, social studies and math to have different teachers, which brings a different perspective. The lower grades participate in the Halloween parade, nature walks and the book buddy program. The principal is very approachable and cares about the children. The PTO is very active and sponsors many fundraising activities and social events. Overall Gates has it all with their academically challenging curriculum, yet balanced approach, which serve the children well as they move onto Junior High.
My son transferred to Gates this year from McCarthy-Towne. It was the best decision we have ever made. He loves it! It is appropriately academically interesting and challenging for a bright and eager student. My son even got elected to the student council! The parents are wonderful and welcoming! My husband and I agree that in the very short time that we've been there, we feel more connected to the Gates community than we ever did during our five years at McCarthy-Towne. This school truly feels like a community! I'm really sorry I didn't check it out six years ago when we began the elementary school search.
One of 5 choices for elementary schools in Acton. Gates is a traditional school which rates as one of the best elementary schools in MA. The teachers like to teach and the administration likes the teachers and the students. I have had 3 children go through Gates. I highly recommend it.
