Do not, I repeat do not enroll your kid in this school!!!! Go to D-11. Worst high school in the city.
I have two children in this high school. I would say that it is an average school and the education they are receiving does have room for improvement. Many of the problems found in this school are due to the students and their lack of motivation and interest in school. The school does offer a handful of AP classes and honors classes but I feel that they do not live up to the expectations of such high level classes. We have also had some problems with some of the teachers and their negative attitudes. There are some very good teachers at the school and your student is lucky to get them. I would suggest looking at a different school district for your child because the middle school that my daughters attended wasn't much better.
I agree do not go to school in this district. your child will wish they never came here. My daughter prays everyday why here?
I am a recent graduate of Sand Creek (salutatorian class of 2007) and am currently at a competitive private university. I have found that my high school education was way better than a lot of students that went to more 'successful' high schools. Sand Creek is a much better school than I had appreciated when I went there. The teachers are very good at what they do. They are fantastic at teaching things that don't show up well in standardized testing, like critical thinking. The current principal, Mike Collins, is fantastic. He really cares about what is in the students' best interests. The pre-engineering program is one of the best in the country. The theater program is fantastic. Sand Creek has a fantastic auditorium, a couple of amazing directors, and has historically had a good pool of actors. The track and cross country teams are very successful, with a very good coach.
