Lots of parent involvement, and lots of really smart & good kids... but the kindergarten program here is incredibly inflexible, and some teachers seem more interested in crowd control than actually teaching. I work in the classroom and watch the teacher go step by step through each worksheet (of which there are way too many) allowing no time for the kids to figure things out for themselves. The principal is nice & friendly, but often seems too busy for us. This school is full of excuses, from budgets to class sizes. It's painful to go to a school that acts like being 'public' is an excuse for inadequacy. Don't be fooled by the test scores -- they are higher because its a GATE magnet and its in an upper-middle class neighborhood.
My husband and I are so sad to be leaving this great school. This school cares so much about your child. We have nothing bad to say about this school. Every staff member has always made us feel so welcome when we are on campus. Parents are always volunteering and staff can't thank them enough. It makes you feel good when you volunteer at this school you feel like your part of the staff...The only reason we are leaving is Moving out of town..We will Miss this school Staff and Students and all the parent volunteers.
My daughter transferred to K.I. Jones in 3rd grade to participate in the GATE magnet program. In general, we have been pleased with the program. I appreciate that our district is far-thinking enough to have this type of differentiated education to meet the varied needs of students thoughout the district. I would like to see K.I. Jones offer more extracurricular activities (sports, art, etc.) and the campus itself is pretty shabby. The office staff is great and always willing to help. Another really strong area at K.I. Jones is the PTA--what a great group of parents!
I have 2 students at K I...Wonderful teachers, dedicated principal, outstanding office staff, efficient and involved PTA. Only negative is the structure could be updated/improved, but you can't expect that any time soon with the CA budget crisis.
