Bastrop High School is not at all a good school. The administration is utterly incompetent, most of the teachers have no real enthusiasm (There are several, that is to say <7orso really great teachers who put up with this for some reason). The counselors, or at least mine, were much worse even that the administration. The career center was very limited in it's usefulness. Students there are, for the most part, closed-minded and have little will to participate in an academic environment. The school's clubs/organizations are not top-notch at all, and they are starting to disappear as well. If you send your child to this school I highly recommend trying to reach out into extra-curriculars and outside studying because almost nothing in this school is going to put your child in their/your university of choice. There are, though, several very excellent teachers. Most are terrible though. I've been taught by some teachers here who really don't care at all. And why should the students care if the teachers don't.

As a student BHS, and can say that it is the worst school i have ever experienced. There is no control over the students, (well, if you're generally a good kid, you can get an ISS for something mediocre, while the kids with poor behavior get away with murder.) the staff help for the students is terrible, (The parking lot is constantly a mess, and the parking lot police will let students cars get keyed, but dont let you park anywhere but the slum of a student parking lot. Try to get help in the career center and they act like YOU should've known how to sign up for the SAT since birth). That, and everyone's high and pregnant. On a lighter note, the teachers are decent, but still, do your child a favor, and get as far away from the Bastrop School district as you can.

I hate the school. My daughter was attending Bastrop and would skip a lot. I was not notifed till the end of the day instead of being notified right away. Students drag their feet to get to class and are always late. Teachers see the students not moving after bell rings and do not get kids moving to get to class.

The opening of the new Cedar Creek High School will help to alleviate overcrowding issues for Bastrop High School. The Bastrop High School received a transformation both exterior and interior. The addition of the Jerry Faye Wilhelm Performing Arts Center has made a substantial improvement for the district. We have a list of great teachers at Bastrop High School. One in particular is Mr. Ed Willis. He is accessible, cheerful, and helpful. He tries to motivate everyone. He does not allow student behavior issues, either in his classroom or outside of class. Yet, he treats everyone with respect. He tries to give students a broad spectrum of college experience. He also serves as the Interact Club sponsor. Many students turn to him for tutorials (quite a few are not his students).

My child works on a old computer table in his room. He also has everything he needs at his fingertips.
