WE are very happy with this school as our son enters his 3rd year. The curriculum is broad, with many AP subjects offered. I like that everyone knows my son, and that he feels safe and comfortable there. He is getting a terrific foundaation for college, and the link to Lehman is great!!! However, the work load is heavy, adn a lot is expected of the students. If your childdoes not like to do schoolwork or homework, this is not the place for him. All staff members, from the principal to the teachers to the aides, and security and athletic personnell have been wonderful to us and our child. we could not be happier with this school.

The High School of American Studies is a wonderful school if you want small classes, close attention from teachers, a beautiful and incredibly clean and safe school building and access to college courses (allowed during 11th grade and up for HSAS students). The Lehman College library, incredible athletic facilities and bucolic Neo-Gothic campus in the middle of the Bronx are all used by HSAS. All your student needs to get in is to score high enough in the SHSAT and to specify The High School of American Studies at Lehman College first on their list of preferred schools. The course offerings and the extracurricular offerings are limited, but does your student really need AP Greek, a Transgendered Students Organization, and an Asian Students Union to make it through high school? HSAS emphasizes the study of history, and mandates 2 yrs World Hist and 3 yrs American History.
