This is our first year at Redan High. My son is in the 9th grade and we were desperately looking for another option. My son got into the Marching Band and he was hooked. School principal tell us that just because our kids are in high school now does not mean we should let go. Yet, teachers say, 'they don't put in info on the parent portal, they tell the kids and if the kids tell the parents it's on them.' I am not sure how to keep my child on track yet.

Unfortunately Redan has gone down since the years have past, but it is still a good school. The school is in need of strong, fair leadership. Even though the leadership is not as strong there are still plenty of good teachers there that have been there for many years. The academics can always be better but that is with any school. Redan has a reputation of doing exceptionally well on the Georgia High School Graduation Test and if I am not mistaken they now rank No. 1 in the county and for the past years we have come in 3rd and 2nd. I attended Stephenson High School and later transferred because I did not like the school, the lack of enthusiasm from teachers, and the many discipline problems there. When I attended Redan my grades got much better and there weren't as many behavior problems like I witnessed at Stephenson.

Worst school in Dekalb, lack of encouragement from staff, staff more focused on discipline then academics.
I am a 2001 alumni of Redan High School who attended Spelman College after high School. I have been teaching for 3 years and have now finished my Master's in Counseling. I enjoyed my 4 years at Redan. We had an excellent principal (McGrady) and I had wonderful teachers that inspired me to do exactly what I am doing today(Major Greer, Sgt Flowers, Ms. Crawford, and Ms. Bogar) Although I did not feel Redan adequately prepared me for college it still gave me a love for education that has served me well thus far. I am disappointed with the condition of the school at this present time. I had an opportunity to substitute teach there in 2005 and it was not the same school that I loved. Yes, the students are running the school and the administration is allowing it.
