I'm a parent of a 1st grader in PS 58. The principal is not my favorite person either. I believe she has her priorities out of order. However, parents have a chance to voice their concerns at the PTA meetings. At a school with almost 1,000 students, I am one of only 15-20 parents that show up at these meetings. The people who take the time to complain on this site should go to the PTA meetings once a month. More of us there would be a louder voice and perhaps we'll be heard.

This is a clean building with many facilities. My child has been fortunate in having a gym and outdoor playground there. The staff is caringwith the children but really it ends there. As part of the specials needs section of the school we are treated as a separate entity. The children do not visit the library except to buy a book during the book fair. There is no PTA outreach for us. Many parents are disgusted at the lack of communication in this school. It feels like a clinic or a prison most of the time. Most of all my child is not getting the education s/he deserves and is not treated as an equal. This segregation and exclusion should not be happening in an American school especially now that we are in 21st century. I hope the DOE puts staff are educated in inclusion practices and fight for it.

My daughter is a student at the School since 2006. Overall the School disappoints me. The School is new and very nice, it s too bad that that the principal and the staff do not use the nice facility for more activities. I don't like the fact that every year when school starts we have to wait for a month before we get a schedule. That is unexplainable. The worst part of all is dismissal, especially on a rainy day. I worry about the kids every day. The children are unsupervised; there is no security in the yard. The children that take buses have to stay on the side and wait and if the bus driver is not there for any reason, the kids are just by themselves. Too bad the teachers are just worried about going home, instead of taking turns to supervise the kids.

The biggest problem I have with the school is the supplies they require. You can't imagine how long the list is and how much you spend. You're not buying it for your child but for the whole class. For example, my child has to have 12 yellow pads for the whole school year. Imagine every kid bringing that in & where does it go at the end of the year. I don't see it coming back. It's great the school has a lot of special events & activities for the kids but it's annoying when you have to buy T-shirts & things you'll never use again. Waste!! The principal says she's approachable but I didn't feel that way. I've called the office & everytime they always say she's not available & she doesn't return phone calls either.
