I'm a graduate of Galax High School and I am SO glad I chose Galax over other schools in the area. The administration and staff clearly push the kids to a higher level of achievement. Other schools tend to set low expectations for the students, but Galax always sets high expectations as far as academics and college admittance. Through the AP classes and dual enrollment, I was able to enter college with enough credits to be considered a sophomore! The other schools simply don't push as hard as Galax, and it shows in the SOL scores. Galax is great and I would definitely send my kids there to properly prepare them for college.

I am a graduate of Galax High School, and believe me when I say that this school is amazing. Every kid gripes about their school, that's natural. They complain about the food, but when I was there, the food was good, the teachers were very interactive, and I learned a lot. They have several programs to help kids excel. And every school is going to have a discipline issue. They're KIDS. It happens. This school is nice, the staff is wonderful, and you're lucky if you can find a school like this without the gang violence, the drug problems, and other major issues you find in bigger schools. I recommend this school to any child.

as a parent of two children who attend galax i am verry concerned with the safty of my kids. The school is undergoing rentovation. The school is not clean, the food is pretty bad.My outlook on the school is the kids are running the school. The teachers are great. But everyone seems to have trouble keeping the kids in line.Boys wearing paints hung to the knees, girls dressed in SHORT cloths.Looks like someone needs to take control.

If you truly mean a shy kid who wants to be outgoing, then I would help them interact with one child at a time. If you are talking about an introverted child, refer to http://www.carlkingdom.com/10-myths-about-introverts

Find something you are good at or enjoy doing a lot, just one thing. You'll gain confidence and meet other kids that enjoy that activity too. Mine was singing in choir. I wasn't good at anything else but that built my confidence for other things... More »
