My daughter graduated from LCMS a few years ago and is now thriving in a local private high school. My son, who just completed 6th grade, was treated like he was in the 3rd grade. From having to sign a homework calendar every night to doing puppet 'book reports', everything about the curriculum was straight from a 'How to Teach 3rd Grade' manual. 6th grade science is a joke! 4 assignments graded for an entire trimester, 3 of which were done in the last week! I'm not a disgruntled parent whose child failed everything. I'm a concerned parent whose gifted child was never challenged. He received A's/B's in all coursework with quite literally no effort! Elementary school was far more challenging. Several 7th grade parents tell me it doesn't get any better! It's time to make some noise and tell Los Cerritos to stop watering down the curriculum.

This school leaves much to be desired. The Gate program is non-existent, and the school has developed a reputation as 'the bullying school.' Love and Wing refuse to accept there is a huge problem with student victimization at this school because it is easier than dealing with the problem. They make false promises and do nothing. Many students transferred to other schools in the district this year because of bullying. It is quite sad that what is supposed to be a happy time for children is instead a miserable experience. I don't care that the school looks like a prison but I do care that it is ran like one - survival of the strongest. The leadership at this school is deplorable. Consider yourself warned. If your child is in anyway different he/she will be targeted and the school will do nothing.

My child graduated from Los Cerritos and had a wonderful experience all three yrs. But the most important part for us was that he was prepared for increasingly more difficult classes @ the high school. His writing and math skills consistently improved and he is excelling in high school in the hardest classes. People ask us where did he learn such great study skills and we give all the credit to Los Cerritos. DON'T BE FOOLED by superficial things such as the school 'looking old' or 'not having windows.' it is the QUALITY of EDUCATION that matters, and as a parent w/ children now @ higher levels of education, our children were more than prepared by Los Cerritos and unfortunately, their friends from other middle schools in the area, public and private, didn't always have the same skill training.

I feel Dr. Love is an outstanding principal. She is NOT like an elem. school principal--invloved at the micro-management level, monitoring all students and teachers daily, and schmoozing with the parents. She can't. It's a big school, and she has a lot of responsibilities--some of which are at the district office--hence why she is often out. I believe a lot of the parental frusturation comes from parents who are used to the elem. model of a principal--and middle school is very different. I feel Dr Love is outstanding--because she gets out of your way and lets you do your job. She supports and encourages innovative programs: like PSST, YoYos for Africa, Connection Club the music program, etc. Los Cerritos has a diverse population--and a lot of kids. I feel it does a great job of meeting most needs. As for the teachers who are lame--talk to the union--not Elly's fault.
