West Preparatory Academy is a public K-12 family and community-oriented college prep school that has shown significant academic growth since its inception three years ago. The dynamic school's turn around was featured in a spirited front page Las Vegas Review Journal story last year. However, the impressive statistics, alone, cannot begin to tell the story of West Prep's success. Its growth over the years mirrors its namesake, the indomitable Dr. Charles I. West, a noted Black doctor and civil rights advocate in the Las Vegas area. Like Dr. West, the community, families, and students would not succumb to defeat or a negative image. On-site, between individual students who persevered through difficult transitions at the school and an administration and staff who dared to dream that all things are possibile with an optimistic vision and a laser-focused mission, West is becoming a beacon school. Most admirably, the West Prep family and its community partners, while pleased with some progress, will never be satisfied until education is so fine-tuned that each student is individually successful on its campus and, collaboratively, in the surrounding neighborhood schools.

The staff an administration at this school are wonderful and caring people. The environment is difficult to work in with many students coming from extremely low-income, or no-income families. The implementation of school wide uniforms, as well as the small class sizes are also a plus.
