They were really an amazing schol and still are. I realy miss BAnnockburn. My daughter now in 6th grade says this was a amazing oppurtunity and has taught her many things for the feauture.
I entered my son in 3rd gr at BES in the middle of a HUGE crisis (finding out he was LD) and although this was the previous principal, the teachers and the way all was handled SAVED my son. I do not mean this lightly. I mean litterally saved him. Over the course of the three years he attended he went from a suicidal confused 7yo to a competent 5th grader. The teachers are unbelievable competent and patient and the community cannot be beat. I wouldn't live anywhere else. BES is a SURE bet no matter what your kids are like. A friend of mine had the same experience with her daughter a year prior mine and she says the same thing. As a parent you can trust their approach. The only down side is the frequent principal changes...
We have two kids at BES and absolutely LOVE the school. The class sizes are small - most under 20 kids. The teachers are very responsive - emails or calls are almost always answered the same day if not just an hour after sending. The principal is new but he is terrific. You can tell that he wants to succeed and make BES the best that it can be. Of course, it is a public school so you have to deal with district issues and funding concerns. However, the warm and nurturing environment isn't impacted at all. My kids love going to school everyday and as a parent I couldn't ask for more!
Positives include a very involved and active parent community, attention to music and arts, and the push for kids to do well on standardized tests. Negatives, which might be true of all elementary schooling is that the heavy attention to reading and math ignores other subjects like history and science. Many of the teachers are right out of college and we've had 3 principals in the last few years. I had a serious concern about the safety of my daughter on her bus and reported this to the principal. He was very kind and reassuring, but he has failed to follow up on his promises to fix the situation and act decisively. He is new and probably still trying to find his management style. Saying what people want to hear to all sides, avoiding a situation and hoping it will go away is perhaps not the best approach.
