A new Crockett Elementary (3rd/4th grade) was completed in 2008 that is connected to the new Gateway Elementary (1st/2nd grade). The schools have separate principals and staff but share a library, gym and lunch room. Although the schools in Borger have been improving, there is still an achievement gap and TAKS scores lag behind state averages. The level of education your child receives at the school is very teacher dependent. If you get a good teacher and class, you will do fine. (Ask around for recommendations/declines.) Curriculum is weak in the Borger schools, in general. Unless your child is in PEAK (1 hour + a week pull out G/T ) , advanced students will not be challenged. Parents are not very involved with the school. We haven't had any problems with the school, just not very impressed overall. Hopefully, the new superintendent will make changes.

Crockett Elementary is a great school. Both of my children attended Crockett, as did I. The staff is so friendly and helpful. They want the best for your children and assist parents in letting them know where your child stands as far as their work and socializing. If there is a problem they help you by letting you know of ways to help your child. The teachers and parents work closely together to make sure your child is where they are supposed to be. My daughter is an A, B, student and she is also involved in PEAK. Crockett has field trips and all kinds of activities that the students may be involved in.

I go in every Monday and help with the Kindergarten reading group or play word games. Then I eat lunch with my child. I also attend and bring things to all school parties. Since I volunteer only on Mondays I do not burn out. : )

Our school gives us mandatory hours (15) that we must give to the school in one way or the other. It is very easy if you don't mind stuffing envelopes or being a lunch mom. I think they even give working moms the opportunities to work on paperwork.... More »
