LWHS couldn't do a better job of preparing young people for college. From the academic curriculum, to the shops, to the personalized college counseling it is all there. The best part is the attentive teacher/student ratio and the outstanding leadership of Al Adams, the headmaster. It's tough to get into, and the top students still must be prepared for at least 4 hours of homework per day. My only problem is the rich kids' environment and attitude of entitlement that many of the students seem to possess. I'm not sure that the school can do any more than they already do to change that. They have generous financial aid and actively recruit a diverse student body.

Lick is a great school. The head master is a visionary, yet a concerned and compassionate leader. The shops are great along with classes such as architecture, which most high schools may not have. My one complaint, the English department is very weak! Few good teachers and an especially lousy curriculum freshman and sophomore years.

I'm a student at Lick. When I first applied, I thought it was great - the shops, the teachers who made sure u learned everything down to detail, the jerk free enviroment. Now, I am currently a sophomore at Lick. What I've experienced differs far from the glammering brochures and open houses. The school, no matter a students'dirverse' background, carries the same monotone

'Community' is what Lick is all about. From parent involvement in school committees, fundraisers, sports games, and banquests to student involvement within the school and each other, Lick is focused on being inclusive and accessable. As a student, I really cherish the chance to meet so many different people. Also unique about Lick, is the 'hands on' motto...a mottos which manifests itself in the technical arts shops. Within the Lick campus are 5 techinal arts shops: metal, wood, jewelry, glass, electronics, and photo. As a student, we're able to take classes in any or all of these shops and have a blast doing it. We've been able to create tables, chairs, cabinets, necklaces, rings, working robots, glass beads, mosaics, stained glass windows, glass dishware, and so many other things. Students hear are taught to design and think on their own...creating whatever they can imagine.
