Kemmerer Village School

My daughter has been a resident for 17 months now and I find the communication very dysfunctional. They have underestimated her mental illness and persisted in behavior modification therapy. I have a good working relationship with the child psychiatrist but not the school. They are not comfortable with involved parents.

I as a parent want the best for my child as any parent would agree. When one is faced with 'special needs' you want more than the 'best'. My child has been in enrolled at Kemmerer Village for several months and in that time I have found the staff to be rude not only to parents and gaurdians, but also to the children. Part of Kemmerer Village mission says; all children have the God-given right of love, nurture, protection and education. I have yet to experience any of the above mentioned. To protect myself and child I will not go into detail of the happenings at Kemmerer, but I will say that I will make it known to the public and the Presbyterian Churches that donate to Kemmerer Village that it is a terrible place for children to be.

Our son attended Kemmerer for 10 months in 2002-2003, in hopes of getting him turned around before he found himself in jail or worse. It was a godsend as the program and the wonderful staff there helped turn him around. We were very pleased with the level of caring and professionalism shown by the staff he worked with. They did a wonderful job of working with us, keeping us informed about his progress and helping us to better understand him. He is a changed kid and any problems that we have with him now are 'normal' teenage stuff, that we feel we're better equipped to deal with. In school, he's become the student we thought he could be, mostly A's and B's. Kemmerer deals with some very challenging kids, our's was one of them that they did wonders for.

I think when it opened years ago for orphans it was a good place. Now it has turned into a small prison, not because of how it is ran but because of what kind of kids are put there. They are always running away and stealing - breaking into places in the surrounding communities. I wish it would go back to how it was. They might as well call it kemmerer detentional center. One kid got out recently and broke into a elderly womens house. Others steal cars and wreck them. All this and they do not get in trouble by law enforcement, because they are wards of the state. They did just build a multi million dollar building which does look nice, but its to nice for prisoners. The sad thing is that my tax money is in some way is probably going there. They need in house guards.
