Park Day seeks to inspire a passion for learning through a progressive approach to education that values intellectual pursuit and critical thinking, creative expression, self-discovery and a commitment to social justice. Park Day School adheres to a progressive educational philosophy. Over a century of professional practice and research shape the progressive view that each child learns not by passively consuming knowledge, but by actively constructing his or her own understanding of material based on prior knowledge, skills, and experience. In progressive education, the child plays a more active role in his or her own learning, so teachers focus as much on the characteristics of each learner as they do on the academic content itself. Children leave Park Day School well on their way to being caring, constructive, open-minded members of the adult world.
We have had both children come through Park Day which now goes K-8. I am amazed at the dedication of the teachers to keep learning, to keep asking how they can improve their teaching and their curriculum, to try new things each year. Teachers STAY at Park because, in part, they have a huge stake: the school is run by consensus. Teachers truly have a say in how the school is run. Tom Little the Director is wise and inspiring and humble. It is a very professional and academic place. The middle school, although fairly new, has attracted absolutely top notch veteran teachers who really get to know their students and help them go on to high school.
This is an amazing school. My daughter is receiving an excellent education in a safe and caring environment in an inclusive and loving community. She feels loved by her teachers and it makes her want to learn and contribute. I highly recommend this school.
Excellent! An incredible school with unbelievably dedicated teachers and parents. Great arts program and grads stay involved b/c the place is so respectful of children.
